Review: The Price is Right 2010 Edition (Wii)

tpir2010-boxSeveral months ago, I reviewed the original Wii version of The Price is Right, which I received last Christmas.  When I saw that Ubisoft/Ludia were preparing to re-launch the game as the “2010 Edition,” I became hopeful that the new version of the game would correct the original’s imperfections.  You may want to read that original review before continuing on to see, besides adding more pricing games, how 2010 really compares to the original. Taylor Swift's "Live" VMA Subway Ride: FAKE... and Here's Why

From MTV.com

From MTV.com

If you saw the MTV Video Music Awards a couple weeks ago, you may have been impressed by the “live” performance of Taylor Swift singing “You Belong to Me” during a subway ride up the F-train from Bryant Park to Rockefeller Center, coming up the stairs right outside Radio City Music Hall, where the awards were being held.  But many details in the video prove it was NOT live.  Nor did it even take place in Bryant Park or on the F-train.  After the jump, you can watch the video again and see the list of evidence. News Producing 101: Why Rundown Timing Matters

Don’t Delay the DTV Transition

dtv_320Even before Barack Obama was sworn in as President, he was pushing Congress to delay the DTV transition (which, technically, should be called the “analog TV shutoff,” since digital TV is already on the air).  He wants to push it back four months to June, to give people more time to prepare.  I think that’s a big, steaming load of B.S.  People have had more than enough time to get ready. Rant: TV/Radio “School” Closing Lists

It’s that time of year again… I work in the news media and when the weather’s really bad, our phones are flooded with schools callling in delays, cancellations and early dismissals.  That’s all fine and dandy, but every year, I really get fed up with many of the “non-school organizations” that want their closings on the air. Is TV Fading Away?

I’m not talking about the analog-to-digital switch coming next February.  I’m talking about some radical changes being considered by the major TV networks, thanks to the ongoing economic crisis.

Broadcasting relies heavily on advertising.  And anyone who has ever watched TV knows a lot of that advertising comes from automakers and local car dealers.  The auto industry makes up a stunning chunk of the revenue that keeps TV going.  (Not just nationally, but locally too.)

MadTV Cancelled – I Told Ya So!

As predicted right here on this very website in February, Fox has cancelled MadTV.  The show’s co-creator is hoping to keep it alive on cable TV, even if it has to get by on a smaller budget.

While some might argue Comedy Central would be a no-brainer for this, I don’t think they’d risk putting up all that money to try to compete with SNL.  In fact, no cable network immediately comes to mind as a likely customer for this has-been show.

Rave: The “Original” Office

The Office (UK Version)So after however the hell long it’s been that we haven’t had any new episodes of anything on TV, I was wandering around the ‘ol digital cable lineup… and came across BBC America on Demand.  (If you’re in CNY, it’s channel 555.)  Just for the hell of it, I looked to see what was there, and discovered a few episodes of the original version of “The Office.” [More »]

Goodbye, Mad TV

Mo Collins & Michael McDonald on Mad TVWhat the heck happened to Mad TV?  I never really caught onto Mad TV when it started, because it’s on at the same time as SNL, and for the past several years, SNL was too good to miss.  But over the past year or so, I “discovered” Mad TV in reruns on Comedy Central… and eventually made a habit of catching the new episodes.  You can’t go wrong with Frank Caliendo playing Rod Roddy and Michael McDonald as Bob Barker.  Or even better, Michael McDonald’s popular Stuart character (shown at left).  But this season, even before the Writers Guild strike, Mad TV has just flat-out sucked. Screwed Again by Network TV Sports Going Late

Seeing as how the Rose Bowl is indirectly causing me to stay at work 40 minutes later than I should have to, I thought this would be a good opportunity to review a previous post:   Rant: Network TV Sports Events That Run Late.   Happy New Year, everyone!
