Five Boro Bike Tour Review: Room for Improvement

It looked like an exciting event when my friend Shaun asked me to sign up: Bike New York’s Five Boro Bike Tour promises a “car-free” bike ride through all five boroughs of New York City, along a course stretching 42 miles. We signed up while the snow was still piling up and we started training as soon as the snow melted, eagerly anticipating the big day. Tonight I was checking a detail about the Poughkeepsie Bridge on Wikipedia while writing a post on a railroad message board I check on a semi-regular basis.  And I found, according to Wikipedia, today is the 35th anniversary of the big fire that took the bridge out of service for good… for trains, anyway. Barbaro’s 15th Trip… and 16th and 17th!

orlando-12 It’s been a busy few months for our favorite retired race horse.  Three new photo albums added today mark Barbaro’s milestone 15th trip, as well as two more.  Thanks to Jeff M. for the pics from Barbaro’s trip to Lake George, NY and a cruise to Ensenada, Mexico (Barbaro’s second international trip).  And finally, I took Barbaro along on a trip of my own — to Disney World.  Click the Barbaro Pix map to see these new trips and all the others!
