I’ve officially opened the website for my new DJ business, Peter Naughton Productions at http://www.PETERtheDJ.com today.  If you’re in Central New York (Syracuse, Utica, Oswego, Cortland and all points in between), check out my competitive prices.  To help get things going, wedding receptions booked before October 31 (they can happen anytime through the end of May 2011, but just need to be booked by Halloween) will get a discount of $25 off my hourly rate.  That’s just $100/hour for a professional DJ to do your wedding reception!!

Review: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I’ve had New Super Mario Bros. Wii since the day it released back in October, but only recently beat the game, hence the delay with this review.  Whether you’ve played other Super Mario Bros. games or not — or even if it’s been a long time since you’ve played one — this is worth picking up.  To sum it up, this game isn’t perfect, but it’s brilliant nonetheless. Rave: Walmart Open on Thanksgiving

When it comes to Walmart, it takes no time to find plenty of complaints and criticism… and I’ll admit, I could easily write a “rant” about Walmart if I wanted to. (Actually, searching back, I already have.)  And I usually hate the way some businesses make people work on Thanksgiving — after spending Thanksgivings 2005-2008 at work myself.  But today, I have to hand it to Walmart for staying open this year… it really helped me out in a major bind. Review: The Price is Right 2010 Edition (Wii)

tpir2010-boxSeveral months ago, I reviewed the original Wii version of The Price is Right, which I received last Christmas.  When I saw that Ubisoft/Ludia were preparing to re-launch the game as the “2010 Edition,” I became hopeful that the new version of the game would correct the original’s imperfections.  You may want to read that original review before continuing on to see, besides adding more pricing games, how 2010 really compares to the original. Review: Family Feud 2010 (Wii)

feud-boxI’ve been a game show fan since I was a kid, so when Target recently offered “buy two get one free” on Wii games, I jumped on a trio of game show remakes.  After all, if you can’t get to Television City to be there in person, a good computer simulation can be the next best thing.  One of the games I bought was “Family Feud: 2010 Edition,” produced by Ubisoft/Ludia, the same companies that made the other two game show remakes I bought.  It’s not the best video game version of “The Feud” I’ve ever seen, but it’s not the worst, either. Wii Games: Buy 2 Get 1 Free at Target

target-wiiI normally don’t post things that basically amount to a free advertisement, but this deal is too good to pass up.  Now through November 7th at Target, most Wii games are part of a “buy 2 get one free” promotion.  In 20+ years of playing video games, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a deal like that. Boilermaker 2009 Photos

For the first time in a few years (and for the first time I didn’t have to for work), I got up early and went to the Utica Boilermaker Road Race.  Great weather, sunny skies, not too hot.  Lots of people out there.  Since I posted all my pictures from the race on Facebook, I’m not re-posting them here.  You can see them at www.tinyurl.com/Boilermaker2009.  It’s a public link, so even if you aren’t my “friend” you can see them.

Still Standing, 35 Years Out of Service

From Wikipedia

From Wikipedia

Tonight I was checking a detail about the Poughkeepsie Bridge on Wikipedia while writing a post on a railroad message board I check on a semi-regular basis.  And I found, according to Wikipedia, today is the 35th anniversary of the big fire that took the bridge out of service for good… for trains, anyway. Rave: Perfect Bid on TPIR

Kudos to this guy (see video below) for making a PERFECT showcase bid on today’s episode of “The Price is Right.”  However, a rant for host Drew Carey, who held a poker face through it all. Even the low-key Ben Stein would have had a better reaction.  Former TPIR host Bob Barker would have made a big deal about it and asked the infamous off-stage official he calls “Fingers” if this has ever happened before in the show’s history.

Rave: “Customers Suck” Forum

While checking “referrers” to one of my websites, I followed a link to a link to a link, and wound up finding a LiveJournal forum called “Customers Suck.”  I highly recommend it.  It’s a place where employees rant about customers who treat them unreasonably, have selective sight/hearing, get into temper tantrums over not being allowed to use expired coupons, etc.  I’d be tempted to submit posts about some of the people who call the newsroom with absurd requests or stupid questions, but I don’t feel like signing up for a LiveJournal account.
