Here we go again — a content provider is threatening to pull its channels off Time Warner Cable systems nationwide at midnight tonight, unless the cable giant agrees to pay higher subscriber fees. Of course, these fee increases will likely be passed along to you and me. [More »]

It’s that time of year again… I work in the news media and when the weather’s really bad, our phones are flooded with schools callling in delays, cancellations and early dismissals. That’s all fine and dandy, but every year, I really get fed up with many of the “non-school organizations” that want their closings on the air. [More »]

I work in a television newsroom in a medium-sized market. Needless to say, we get a TON of e-mail every day… from viewers, from co-workers, from managers, and most of all: from various companies or organizations looking for coverage. There are 3 really bad habits in many press releases, which I absolutely hate. (And a few others that are pretty close runners-up.) [More »]

I paid $48 to fill my gas tank today. When I first bought a car — which makes me sound old, but it was only SEVEN YEARS AGO — it cost $20 to fill the tank. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE? This is almost 150% inflation, over a span of time where it should only be 21% (if you figure 3% per year). It’s even worse when you consider the $48 is actually lower than average for this area. Lately I’ve been shopping around for electronics. We’ve been wanting an HDTV, as well as a new laptop to replace the aging/damaged one we’re using. It’s tough to find decent prices, but it seems whenever I do find a good deal, there’s a pesky rebate involved… and I’ll tell you why I hate this. [More »]

In New York State, it’s against the law to hold a cell phone up to your head and talk while you’re driving. You’re supposed to use a hands-free device or speakerphone instead. Still, many people can’t be bothered, and it’s quite evident how this affects their driving. [More »]

Back in November, I ranted about the New York State Thruway’s plan to raise tolls. Today, they voted to approve the toll hikes. Shame on you, Thruway Authority. Shame on you!!

When I was younger, I could have sworn every Dunkin Donuts was open 24 hours a day. Everyone remembers those commercials with Fred the Baker talking about how it was always “time to make the donuts.” Daytime, nighttime, always making the donuts. But lately, it seems being open 24/7 is more the exception than the rule. That sucks and here’s why. [More »]

Presidential Race Down the Toilet
Are both major presidential candidates smoking crack? First, we start off with two major candidates I don’t really like in the first place. But then Barack Obama avoids the obvious VP choice — Hillary Clinton — and picks Joe Biden. Then today, John McCain does the exact same thing: skipping his obvious choice — Mitt Romney — to go with some woman from Alaska that nobody (except some Alaskans) has ever heard of. What the hell is going on here? How awesome would it be if we could vote “None of the Above” on November 4th, and force the entire process to start over with new people?
