Rave: The “Original” Office

The Office (UK Version)So after however the hell long it’s been that we haven’t had any new episodes of anything on TV, I was wandering around the ‘ol digital cable lineup… and came across BBC America on Demand.  (If you’re in CNY, it’s channel 555.)  Just for the hell of it, I looked to see what was there, and discovered a few episodes of the original version of “The Office.” »»More

Goodbye, Mad TV

Mo Collins & Michael McDonald on Mad TVWhat the heck happened to Mad TV?  I never really caught onto Mad TV when it started, because it’s on at the same time as SNL, and for the past several years, SNL was too good to miss.  But over the past year or so, I “discovered” Mad TV in reruns on Comedy Central… and eventually made a habit of catching the new episodes.  You can’t go wrong with Frank Caliendo playing Rod Roddy and Michael McDonald as Bob Barker.  Or even better, Michael McDonald’s popular Stuart character (shown at left).  But this season, even before the Writers Guild strike, Mad TV has just flat-out sucked. »»More

Screwed Again by Network TV Sports Going Late

Seeing as how the Rose Bowl is indirectly causing me to stay at work 40 minutes later than I should have to, I thought this would be a good opportunity to review a previous post:   Rant: Network TV Sports Events That Run Late.   Happy New Year, everyone!

Commentary: Victory for Letterman!

File PhotoThe news came out late Friday night that David Letterman will be back on the air WITH WRITERS next week.  I think this is spectacular.  Apparently the company that produces Letterman’s show, along with Craig Ferguson (the guy who’s on CBS after Letterman) agreed to the conditions the Writers’ Guild was asking… so the WGA said those writers can return to work.  I really hope this is the beginning of the end of the strike. »»More

Rant: Network TV Sports Events That Run Late

What is the deal with the TV networks?  Can they EVER get a damn football game off the air ON TIME?  There’s nothing worse than sitting down to watch “The Simpons” or “The Amazing Race” on DVR, only to find out you recorded 30 minutes of football or some other show that was delayed.  Then you’re left with just the first half of the show you wanted — ultimately left to wonder how the episode ended. »»More

Disneyland No Longer “Happiest Place on Earth”

Drew Carey on TPIR

Today was the big day (well, technically yesterday since it’s after midnight): Drew Carey’s first show as host of “The Price is Right.”  And I hope Disney wasn’t watching when he came out of the big doors and proudly proclaimed the show to be “The happiest place on Earth.”  Isn’t that the slogan for Disneyland?  I’m sure news of a lawsuit would have been all over the place by now, so I guess they let it slide.

All kidding aside, there were pros and cons to Drew’s first day… read along, see if you agree, and feel free to leave comments at the end. »»More

Rave: Come on Down!

091807-ComeOnDownWho knew there was a book about what goes on “Behind the big doors at The Price is Right?”  I certainly didn’t… but I was pleasantly surprised to come home from work tonight, to find a copy of “Come on Down!” on my desk.  Kelly bought me a copy and, as much as I usually don’t enjoy reading books… I sat right down and started reading.  (That’s why tonight’s posts are sooooo ridiculously late.)  Here’s the book’s listing on amazon.com.  It’s written by Stan Blits — who works in three different roles on the show. »»More

Primetime Emmy Awards

Emmy AwardSince I’ve spent most of the day working on the site upgrade, and it’s now very late at night, I don’t have a “full review” but rather a bunch of quick bullet points.  Check it out, then take a few moments to share your own thoughts on last night’s telecast. »»More

“Let’s Make a Deal” Madness

'Let's Make a Deal' setSo tonight I flipped over to the Game Show Network at 2:00, after that Godawful Playnation show ended… and they had 2 back-to-back episodes of “Let’s Make a Deal.” Sadly, my first thought was, “they rarely run that show… did Monty Hall die?”

I headed over to Wikipedia to check his bio. Good news: Monty’s still alive. But the main point of this post… I found a link to an interesting article about the “Monty Hall Problem” contestants often face. At first I thought it was funny, then wondered who the heck had so much time to put this together… and then it got so “deep” that I just couldn’t finish reading it. See how far you can get!
