Review: M&M’s Kart Racing (Wii)

Avoid this game at all costsHere comes the first in a short series of reviews on new games we got for Christmas.  I’ll get right to the point: this one sucks.  (I paid for it, so I can bash it.)  Thankfully, I wasn’t “looking” for it — Kelly loves the M&M characters, and I found it by chance while looking for other gift ideas.  So, at least it wasn’t like either of us were anxiously anticipating its arrival on Christmas.  Click “more” to see the rest of the review I submitted to outpost.com. »»More

Commentary: Victory for Letterman!

File PhotoThe news came out late Friday night that David Letterman will be back on the air WITH WRITERS next week.  I think this is spectacular.  Apparently the company that produces Letterman’s show, along with Craig Ferguson (the guy who’s on CBS after Letterman) agreed to the conditions the Writers’ Guild was asking… so the WGA said those writers can return to work.  I really hope this is the beginning of the end of the strike. »»More

New Wii Bowling Personal Best

Look at that photo and count up the strikes:
I bowled a 279!

Rave: Winamp 5.5

Winamp 5.5 LogoPlenty of rants lately… and it’s almost Christmas, so I guess it’s time for something positive.  If you haven’t upgraded your Winamp to the latest version yet, go do it.  There are 2 features in particular which I think are pretty cool.  Today I’ll tell you why I like them — but there are some slight glitches to watch out for. »»More

Rant: “Perfect Pump” More Difficult

Screwed at the pumps again. This rant isn’t about gas prices themselves — we all know prices are ridiculously high, and we’ll probably never see them go below $3.00/gallon ever again.  The problem I have, is with one of the nasty side effects.  When you go to pump gas… the total goes up so fast, it’s becoming harder and harder to stop at an exact amount. »»More

Turducken: I Think I’ll Pass

TurduckenWow, two posts in one day!  Yep, I’m on a roll.  Sometimes the ideas just pile up.  On the way to work Monday, I heard a radio ad for some supermarket claiming it can take care of any of your holiday needs… fruit platters, cold cut plates… even cooked turducken, ready to serve.  I know the turducken isn’t a new concept, but I finally have to ask – exactly how much of a glutton do you have to be to want one of these? »»More

Rant: They’re CATS, not CARS!

Shouldn't it be Used CARS? You'd sure think so.At work on Monday, I spotted a story posted to the wire from a TV station in Houston.  (I’d post a link, but they didn’t post the story on their website.)  Since I can’t post actual wire material, the basic gist of it was, they showed video of a 25-pound cat up for adoption at the SPCA.  Here’s the gem: the cat was put up for adoption because its owners had just adopted a kitten — and they were afraid the ol’ 25-pounder might accidentally roll over the kitten and crush it. »»More

Rant: Lazy-Ass Neighbors Who Never Shovel

How do I know it's not one of my neighbors? BECAUSE THEY NEVER SHOVEL.We’re in the middle of a Nor’easter.  As indicated in my last post, that’s no surprise… we live in the northeast U.S., hence, we get Nor’easters.  It’s a way of life here.  But what’s really irking me today is that my neighbors, whom we share a walkway with, NEVER shovel the walkway.  Every time it snows, I’m the one who shovels.  What’s worse… they have THREE kids.  Two teens and one in his 20’s.  The only time I see these lazy-ass kids is when they’re out under their porch smoking cigarettes (one of them illegally, mind you).  Get these kids off their lazy asses and make them shovel, dammit! »»More

Snow Hype

I love how, as of 8:00 Saturday night, at least 21 Syracuse-area organizations have called in closings or cancellations for Sunday — and it hasn’t snowed ONE flake here yet.  Even better is how all these folks are getting up in a tizzy because we’re expecting anywhere up to 8 inches by morning!  Um, did we all forget?  This is Central New York!  IT SNOWS HERE!!  Why the heck is everyone so crazy about this snow?  Take a chill pill, people.

Rant: “Wal-Mart’s” and “Penney’s”

Learn proper grammar, dammit!A quick rant today — there won’t even be a “more” link.  I hate it when people write “Wal-Mart’s” or “Price Chopper’s” when they pay by check.  There’s no need for the “apostrophe-s” at the end.  Or even “Penney’s” instead of “JC Penney.”  That’s like a double violation, because they’re not just adding the ’s, they’re omitting the JC.  It’s been awhile since I’ve last witnessed this, with checks slowly being replaced by plastic… but it just randomly popped into my head, and I’m overdue for a new article.  That is all.
