Technical Difficulties RESOLVED

NTSC Color Bars - Without the annoying tone!

(3/23/08) One week ago, I announced a problem regarding a plugin that connects the “main” site with the photo gallery.  Well, it turns out others were having the same problem, thanks to a recent upgrade by my hosting provider.  Finally, the problems appear to be fixed!  The link to Peter’s Pix should be working fine.  Let me know (by posting a comment to this article) if you notice any problems of which I may be unaware.

Vote for Shug!!

ShugJust for fun, Kelly entered Shug into the “Bissell Most Valuable Pet” contest.  Winner gets their face plastered all over the packaging for some new vaccuum cleaner they’re coming out with.  Voting ended on the 19th — thanks to everyone who took 30 seconds to click the link I had here to cast a vote for Shug!

Touring Boston in Just 24 Hours

Boston SkylineLast week, Kelly and I marked our fourth anniversary dating.  She tried to surprise me with tickets to see comedian Dane Cook performing in Boston last weekend.  She had no luck with several eBay auctions, but we decided to go to Beantown anyway.  Being a pretty spur-of-the-moment trip, we didn’t have much time to really plan anything… but we still got to see quite a bit… all in just 24 hours, including sleep.  Click here to see the pictures.  Rather than writing a full article, I detailed the trip through the captions for each photo.

News: Gallery Overhaul, New Photos

After fiddling more with the “Gallery” program, I’ve finally got things set so the pages look a little neater.  It fixes a subtle problem most people probably didn’t notice — or didn’t care about even if they did.  Basically, pictures have been resized so they “fit” in the page.  Of course, you can still access the “full size” version of any pic (ie. for wallpaper use) by clicking on the picture itself.  Click again to return to “normal” size.

DSCF3604I’ve also started uploading some of my many train pictures.  For now, I’ve posted the Metro-North and subway pictures from our recent NYC trip.  The LIRR pics from that trip will be next, and then I’ll start the massive task of uploading the rest of my collection.  (If you just can’t wait, most of the older pics are already up at nycsubway.org … just run a search for my name.) »»More

Another New Design

Lately I got sick of the design template I was using for the site.  The way it was set up, it was nearly impossible for me to figure out how to tweak small details.  And whenever I tried to install a different theme, it wouldn’t show up quite the way I expected.

So, I’ve ditched the program I was running the site on, and switched to something else.  I had to manually copy over every single article, so there’s a chance you may find a mistake or two, caused by that process.  If you catch any glitches, please let me know so I can fix them.  Thanks!

Update (Monday, 3:18am) - Finally!  I figured out how to get a link to ”Peter’s Pix“ to show up in the menu bar at the top of the page AND I fixed the glitch where the text on the Gallery pages was loading so small, you’d need a magnifying glass to read it.

Site Layout Changes

You may have noticed the site menu used to appear twice — once along the top of the page and again in the gray area to the left.

Today, I eliminated the version on the left since it was redundant.  Just hover your mouse pointer over the buttons across the top of the page.  If there are “subitems” available, they will automatically appear.  You can click either the main item, or any of the subitems.

UPDATE (9/16/07): With the even newer layout, this post isn’t really accurate anymore, but it’s still here for archival sake.

SimCity SNES Page is Back

SimCity SNESOne of the few features making the transition from the “old” Peter’s Place to the “new” site is pretty much complete. There are tons of sites with SimCity 2000/3000/4 info, but mine has been the only one to cover the SuperNES version of the original. So that’s the one Sim Game page I’ve moved to the new site.

In the process, I updated quite a bit of it, and added some new graphics. When I have time, I may add some more screen shots, but even as it is now, it’s better than the original. Click here to check it out.

New! Peter’s Pix Section

After searching around for some good “photo management” programs, I’ve found one I liked… and more importantly, one that I was able to install without having a degree in rocket science. (Though it wasn’t exactly a simple “point and click” either.)

The result is the new Peter’s Pix section of the site. I’ve got pictures from trips, events and other random stuff. You can click the “Peter’s Pix” link in the menu, or click on any of the “random images” you see in the sidebar area as you browse around.
