At work on Monday, I spotted a story posted to the wire from a TV station in Houston. (I’d post a link, but they didn’t post the story on their website.) Since I can’t post actual wire material, the basic gist of it was, they showed video of a 25-pound cat up for adoption at the SPCA. Here’s the gem: the cat was put up for adoption because its owners had just adopted a kitten — and they were afraid the ol’ 25-pounder might accidentally roll over the kitten and crush it. »»More

I love how, as of 8:00 Saturday night, at least 21 Syracuse-area organizations have called in closings or cancellations for Sunday — and it hasn’t snowed ONE flake here yet. Even better is how all these folks are getting up in a tizzy because we’re expecting anywhere up to 8 inches by morning! Um, did we all forget? This is Central New York! IT SNOWS HERE!! Why the heck is everyone so crazy about this snow? Take a chill pill, people.
This one’s a bit overdue… two months ago, the New York State Thruway Authority announced it’s thinking about raising tolls. What doesn’t really jive with me, is the reason they gave — declining revenues because higher gas prices are causing people to travel less often and/or avoid the Thruway to beat the tolls. Well, that’s a load of BS, and here’s why I say so. »»More

Today was the big day (well, technically yesterday since it’s after midnight): Drew Carey’s first show as host of “The Price is Right.” And I hope Disney wasn’t watching when he came out of the big doors and proudly proclaimed the show to be “The happiest place on Earth.” Isn’t that the slogan for Disneyland? I’m sure news of a lawsuit would have been all over the place by now, so I guess they let it slide.
All kidding aside, there were pros and cons to Drew’s first day… read along, see if you agree, and feel free to leave comments at the end. »»More
There’s a new SimCity game coming out soon! I don’t know how long news of this game has been “out there” but I just discovered it the other day. Instead of “SimCity 5,” they’re calling it “SimCity Societies” and it comes out November 13. Hard to tell if I’ll like it… the official SimCity website doesn’t show a whole lot in their sneak preview. For example, it doesn’t say which versions of Windows are supported. »»More
Came across a USA Today article about a home building company that’s so desperate for sales, they’re starting to offer homes with rooms, fixtures and so on, themed after various Disney characters and movies. Are you kidding me?!
In the article, a representative of “KB Homes” says most of their customers “are families with children.” OK, but what happens when those kids grow up? »»More
Since I’ve spent most of the day working on the site upgrade, and it’s now very late at night, I don’t have a “full review” but rather a bunch of quick bullet points. Check it out, then take a few moments to share your own thoughts on last night’s telecast. »»More
So tonight I flipped over to the Game Show Network at 2:00, after that Godawful Playnation show ended… and they had 2 back-to-back episodes of “Let’s Make a Deal.” Sadly, my first thought was, “they rarely run that show… did Monty Hall die?”
I headed over to Wikipedia to check his bio. Good news: Monty’s still alive. But the main point of this post… I found a link to an interesting article about the “Monty Hall Problem” contestants often face. At first I thought it was funny, then wondered who the heck had so much time to put this together… and then it got so “deep” that I just couldn’t finish reading it. See how far you can get!
If you haven’t noticed, Google Maps introduced a new “street level” feature back in May. You can see panoramic images along the streets of certain cities, as if you were driving along the street in your car. But as The New York Times points out, some people are questioning the legality of it all. »»More
