Rave: The “Original” Office

The Office (UK Version)So after however the hell long it’s been that we haven’t had any new episodes of anything on TV, I was wandering around the ‘ol digital cable lineup… and came across BBC America on Demand.  (If you’re in CNY, it’s channel 555.)  Just for the hell of it, I looked to see what was there, and discovered a few episodes of the original version of “The Office.”

(If you didn’t know, “The Office” on NBC is based on a British version aired by the BBC from 2001-2003.)

I’ve watched a couple so far.  Pretty neat.  You can easily figure out which U.K. characters equate to the U.S. characters, at least for the main roles.  The minor roles have some similarities, but those folks rarely have many lines anyway.

The general premises of the show is the same… regional manager of a struggling paper company somehow keeps his job even though he’s a complete idiot.  But the episodes (so far) aren’t really the same as the U.S. show… so it’s almost like watching new episodes of “The Office” except with different people on a different set

Unfortunately, the on-demand channel only has a handful of episodes… so it’ll only be a matter of time until I’ve seen them all, and I’m stuck waiting for new U.S. episodes to come back in April… for the, what, 8 weeks until they go back off for the summer?

Stupid TV strike.
