I never thought I’d be writing something like this. Heck, shortly after the re-birth of this website, I posted a rant about how I was so sick about Paris Hilton being all over the headlines. Usually I don’t pay much attention to celebrity news, especially the tabloid-level stuff. But tonight, I actually think the paparazzi is going a little overboard with hassling Britney Spears.
Check out this article from the Fox station in Los Angeles… even check out the video. On her way home from the hospital today, Spears encountered several red lights. Every time she stopped the car, paparazzi had the car swarmed within seconds. First just one or two guys, then many others — some even hopping out of other cars waiting for the red light to get pictures!
No wonder she’s going crazy… imagine having a swarm of seedy photographers taking your picture every single moment you’re out in public. This girl just spent a week in the hospital with mental issues, she’s just trying to get home so she can relax — and these guys are in her face, snapping hundreds of pictures, probably hoping to score big when their pictures grace the pages of the National Enquirer or People magazine.
Granted, she’s done some pretty stupid things to make her a magnet to the paparazzi. You don’t see swarms of people chasing, say, Celine Dion. Celine just sings her sappy songs in Vegas, and she never does anything wild or crazy. Still, it’s pathetic that you can’t go through the supermarket checkouts without seeing these pictures of celebrities — doing “normal” things like going on vacation, or even just taking a drive around town. At what point do these people get a moment to themselves? It’s even more pathetic that society craves these pictures and videos enough to encourage the tabloids to continue doing what they’re doing.
