Look at that photo and count up the strikes:

…and that competitor with a 72 is a future ESPN anchor!
Well, I have to be fair… out of the co-workers I played against on Christmas, I’m the only one who owns a Wii. Kevin, Anish and Steve had little or no prior experience, so bragging about knocking down 200+ pins more than Anish did would be like Tiger Woods gloating about beating me at golf when I’ve played “pitch-n-putt” maybe three times ever. But give any of these guys more time to get used to the Wii controllers, and I think they’ll fare much better.
No matter who I was playing against, I was still pretty excited — nine strikes in a row helped pave the way to my new personal best, a 279. The game fell apart when I threw a 9 on the 10th frame. At least I picked up the spare and rolled a strike on the “extra” 10th frame ball. If only that one little pin had fallen down!! Who knows… I probably would have screwed it up on the 11th or 12th throw anyway.
Anyone else? What’s your best Wii bowling score? Even if yours doesn’t top mine, I’d still be interested in your best scores and strategies. Leave your comments below — especially if you know of any “secrets” to picking up the spare on a 7-10 split!
