Rant: They’re CATS, not CARS!

Shouldn't it be Used CARS? You'd sure think so.At work on Monday, I spotted a story posted to the wire from a TV station in Houston.  (I’d post a link, but they didn’t post the story on their website.)  Since I can’t post actual wire material, the basic gist of it was, they showed video of a 25-pound cat up for adoption at the SPCA.  Here’s the gem: the cat was put up for adoption because its owners had just adopted a kitten — and they were afraid the ol’ 25-pounder might accidentally roll over the kitten and crush it.

Are you kidding me?  As much as it’s great to adopt a new pet, that’s NO reason to put an existing pet up for adoption!  We’re talking about living, breathing animals, here — not the “drive new every two” lease program at your local Ford dealer!  How about just being patient and keeping the two animals separate until the kitten gets big enough to defend itself?

Or better yet, don’t adopt the kitten.  People love kittens… chances are that kitten wouldn’t have had to wait long for someone else to come along and adopt it.  Can’t usually say the same for a 25-pound cat that’s a few years old.  (At least this one was lucky enough to get on TV, almost always a guarantee of adoption.)

The way some people think and act on impulses without employing a shred of common sense irritates me.
