Rant: Fast Food Pricing Scam

As a somewhat picky eater, I think it’s great that Burger King prides itself on letting you “have it your way” and McDonald’s will make items “just for you” if you ask.  Rather than holding one or two items from a sandwich, I’m more likely to ask for it “plain with just” one thing, rather than five.  But, God forbid I ask them to clear the sandwich, then add an item that’s usually not there!

Case in point, I went to the Burger King drive-thru last night, during my dinner break from work.  For some reason, I had a craving for fish, so I ordered a pair of BK Big Fish™ sandwiches.  But I find tartar sauce to be absolutely disgusting (as is any product derived from mayonnaise) and I don’t really see how lettuce goes together with fish.  So, I asked for it plain, with just cheese.  Here’s how the receipt came out:

Are you seeing what I’m seeing?  Yes, they charged me for the cheese.  OK, if the sandwich doesn’t usually come with it, fine.  But where’s the deduction for the lettuce?  And how about the tartar sauce?  If they’re normally included with the price of the sandwich, and I didn’t order them, why am I still paying for them?  Money-grubbing bastards!
