Rant: Slow Fast Food

I thought calling it FAST food meant it’s supposed to be fast. Apparently that’s not the case anymore.

Yesterday I figured I’d try something different on my break from work. McDonald’s is crappy, Burger King is too far away, and I didn’t want a sub or pizza. So I went to KFC.

Well, at the drive-thru, the woman in front of me ordered something that apparently wasn’t completely ready. So she sat at the window, and I sat behind her, as the minutes ticked away. When I got to the window, my food was sitting right there, all set to go.

Whatever happened to making people pull up ahead of the window? It’s happened to me sometimes… you order something special, they may not have it ready on the spot. OK, fine. I understand: making me pull up and wait allows everyone else to keep moving through the line.

But how come it seems like they never do this when the special order is someone in front of me? Are these places now too lazy to walk stuff out to people’s cars? Or has “speed” become a fallen priority? I probably could have gone to Subway, parked, walked in, ordered a sub and played their little game with the toppings in a shorter amount of time than I did with the KFC drive-thru.
